| Course Descriptions
Basic Bridge - This course teaches novices the basic fundamentals of bridge. It is designed for the person who has never played bridge or for the person who wants to start at the beginning. By the end of the course, participants are ready to play in the student game.
Review of Bridge Basics – Appropriate for anyone who has played some bridge but recognizes their need to obtain a firm grasp of basic bidding. After a review of the topics covered in Basic Bridge, the course presents overcalls, takeout doubles, and the Stayman convention.
Declarer Play - Play of the hand covers the importance of making a plan, counting winners and losers, and finding the tricks you need to make the contract. The focus is on declarer play and not on bidding.
Competitive Bidding - After covering weak two opening bids and preemptive opening bids, this course teaches how the dynamics of the auction change when both partnerships are bidding. It includes advancing a takeout double and advancing an overcall both with and without competition.
Defense – About half the time we are defending and not playing the hand. This course will teach you what you need to do to defeat a contract. It covers such topics as leads and signaling.
Conventions – Some of the conventions covered in this course are Jacoby transfers, Jacoby 2NT, Drury, weak two opening bids, and fourth suit forcing to game.
Doubles – This is a new course covering the takeout double and responses, rebids by the doubler, balancing and other doubles.
Play Courses
Notrump Bidding and Responses – During each session, participants will play 8 pre-determined hands that illustrate the concepts involved in notrump bidding. This is a review course and not intended to teach these concepts for the first time.
Major Suit Raises – By playing 8 boards in each session, participants will review responding to an opening bid in a major suit where responder has support for that suit. This is a review course.
